This is an exciting day since my new blog is now resting comfortably on my website. Hooray! In January 2006, I set up my original blog at Wordpress and had a blast learning the technology. It wasn’t long after that I started teaching others how to set up their own blog, maximize keyword phrases, create compelling posts, etc. However, I knew I’d eventually want the blog to be part of my website so folks wouldn’t have to go elsewhere to get all those entertaining, informative posts!
Then along came, Tim Offutt, President of State7Design.com . Tim is the kind of person you really want to do business with – friendly, down to earth, knowledgeable, humble and very easy to talk to. It wasn’t long before we discovered all kinds of ways our businesses were compatable, ways we could cross-market and create an informal collaboration. Folks who came to me for website coaching, content writing and internet marketing could then go to him for beautiful, functional, easy to manage websites. How did he know I’d been keeping my eyes open for a designer I could refer my clients to?
And all because he was open enough to introduce himself at a networking event just 3 weeks earlier! So in addition to a few other ways he’s helped me out, he moved my blog over to the website and now I’m off and writing once again! Thanks Tim!!
Folks, you just never know who you’re going to meet that might end up bringing something valuable to your business. People who are open to helping one another, who don’t feel threatened or have a scarcity mindset, end up benefitting in multiple ways.
Yet, sadly there are many who run across others in a similar line of business and immediately put up the walls. They don’t take the time to get to know the other person, find out more about one another’s specialities and discover ways there may be that proverbial “win-win”. They immediately adopt a mask intended to scare away competitive ”evil spirits”.
It truly is a new season and those who continue to do business in a shortsighted manner lose in the long run. The more marketing messages people have to weed through to make buying decisions, the more likely they’ll act on referrals from generous souls with abundance attitudes.
The ancient Celts marked the beginning of the new year by celebrating the festival of Samhain, Lord of the Dead. Revelers would scare away the souls of evil spirits by wearing masks and lighting bonfires. After Roman conquests and Christian influence, the celebration for all martyrs (all souls) was moved to November 1st and eventually, All Hallows Eve was shortened to Halloween.
If you read further in the article above, you’ll find a reference to the ultimate networked connection between those of us still slogging it out here on earth and those whose souls are now at rest.
We get so little time to do so much good work – let’s scare away the tendency to be stingy souls. Let’s welcome the season, and one another, with warmth and generosity of spirit!
Happy Halloween from Laura B., writing from Colorado!
